Generic Viagra Effectiveness

How Generic Viagra helps

What you should know about Generic Viagra

Generic Viagra works by relaxing the muscles in your penis so that more blood flows into a sponge-like area called the corpus cavernosum. As this fills up, it constricts the veins and reduces the flow of blood out of the penis. This produces the erection and restores your sexual function. It is also used under the brand name Revatio for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension in both men and women.

Dosage

Generic Viagra is sold as 25mg, 50mg and 100mg tablets. The standard dose is the lowest for adult males under the age of 65 years. It is dangerous to exceed a daily dose of 100mg. It should be taken not less than half an hour before sexual activity is expected. You should also avoid drinking alcohol, which increases the risk of the side effects.

You should ask the advice of your physician before taking Generic Viagra if you have:

  • shown any allergic reaction to this medication or similar medications;
  • any cardiovascular problems including aortic stenosis or hypertension/hypotension;
  • had a life-threatening arrhythmia, heart attack or a stroke within the last six months;
  • any deformity of the penis or have experienced priapism, i.e. an unnaturally long-lasting and painful erection;
  • a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anaemia, multiple myeloma, or leukaemia;
  • any bleeding disorder such as haemophilia;
  • your liver or kidney function is impaired;
  • diabetes;
  • any eye conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa;
  • been unable to quit smoking; or
  • reached the age of fifty years.

If you take any of the following medications, do not add Generic Viagra to the mix until you have discussed the risks with your physician:

  • any nitrate-based medication for cardiovascular conditions including Nitrostat (nitroglycerin), Isordil (isosorbide dinitrate) and Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate), or a recreational drug such as amyl nitrate (often sold on the streets as "poppers"). The combination of Generic Viagra and a nitrate can cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly and increases the risk of a stroke or heart attack.
  • alpha blockers such as prazosin and alfuzosin which can cause an additive effect and hypotension;
  • azole antifungals such as fluconazole;
  • antibiotics such as clarithromycin and amoxicillin, and the erythromycins which increase the risk of side effects; or
  • any other medication for the relief of erectile dysfunction such as Cialis (tadalafil) or impotence such as Caverject (alprostadil) or Yodoxin (yohimbine).
This is not a complete list. There are many other medications where caution is advised.

Generic Viagra — the side effects

The most common reactions are:

  • headache;
  • blushing or flushing of the face or neck;
  • dyspepsia or other stomach upsets;
  • nasal congestion;
  • uterine contractions;
  • abnormal vision;
  • diarrhoea;
  • dizziness;
  • rash; or
  • hypo/hyperglycaemia.
In most cases, these are mild but, if they should become more serious or last longer than you expect, consult your physician.

Contact your physician or get medical attention on an emergency basis if you experience:

Priapism, i.e. you find your erection painful or it lasts longer than usual. Any prolonged erection can damage your penis.
Sudden loss of vision. This medication can reduce the flow of blood to the optic nerve. The resulting loss of vision has affected a small number of people who also had certain pre-existing eye problems, or were suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or high cholesterol. Those who smoke or are over 50 years old seem to be particularly at risk. The current evidence does not prove whether Generic Viagra is the operative cause of this loss of vision.
Any signs of an allergic reaction including difficulty in breathing, any serious rash or hives, and/or any swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat.
Serious dizziness or pain, numbness or tingling in your chest, arms, neck or jaw — these could be symptoms of a heart attack.
